Ohmigosh, I'm SO all over this swap! :D I just acquired some fantastic sparkly ATC blanks from a friend this weekend, and this is a perfect way to use one of them. I adore sparkly things, I'm downright addicted in fact! :)

i'm jealous, @betsi ! i need some sparkly ATC blanks!! i'm a glitter addict myself...the fiancee...not so much lol

@betsi where oh where did your friend get those sparkly ATC blanks?

Betsi 11/25/2010 #

Her kid's kindergarten has some one who donates it in large pieces and the kids draw on the back! She cuts it up into ATC blanks when they are done (she asks first, no worries!:) I don't know where the person who donates it gets it, but they must have a lot to just give it away. It's really neat - about posterboard weight, a little bit thinner maybe, and shiny-holographic on one side. Almost like a solid silver, except that it shows a rainbow of colors when you tilt it and the light catches it. I only have four of these blanks, they are like TREASURE and I'm a little scared to use them. :D

Though I've also made my own sparkly ATC blanks before - Michael's has had some great 12x12 glitter papers lately that are completely sealed so the glitter doesn't come off. The paper is a bit pricey for scrapbook paper but it's sturdier that most and you can cut those into 10-12 blanks so it's worth the ~$3 to me... Also, I have some neat specialty tinfoil I got on after Christmas clearance years ago that has holographic snowflake designs in it. I run smallish pieces through my Xyron and cover old Magic The Gathering cards with it. It's a very cool effect.

Sorry, I could ramble on for hours about sparkles and ATCs. Two great tastes that taste great together, lol! :D

Ack... ok, one last thought and I swear I'll shut up - they make some nifty sparkly wrapping paper this time of year - save any you get gifts in, including gift bags. It's too lightweight for ATC blanks, but you can glue it down like the tin foil (and unlike tinfoil you don't need to use a Xyron, just a gluestick or whatever.)

OH! and, uh, one other thing... eesh, sorry, can't shut up here... at Back To School time they have pocket folders - you know, the kind for three-ring binders? - in a HUGE array of designs, usually at least some are cool sparkly ones. If you time it right they are dirt-cheap too, like a dime apiece or something. Try a big box store like Target in late August. These folders are a great weight for a sturdy ATC, so it's FANTASTIC.

Ok, really shutting up now... yeah, I'm a tad obsessed......

Betsi... I am a Betsy.. don't you find Betsys to be the most creative people? Anyway.. you think like i do about using not meant for crafting materials in your art work... ie.. folders. I just wanted to remind swapbot friends to check that snail mail junkmail... I have come across some serious bling paper (usually on postcard ads) that can be used. Also packaging for things sometimes have shimmery eye catchers.. and even premade windows that can be used...when a general ad card comes in I ask neighbors if i can have theirs... after a while they start setting papers and such aside for me. FUN and free.

this would do for a sparkly back... and most scrapbook stores have card stock packs on sale every couple of weeks... a mat stack is cheaper than the large ones, and every single piece could be cut into 2 atc sized, and still have a bit left over. just a thought for those wanting the base to sparkle...

Woo Hoo I bought some super sparkly scrapbook paper last week and had no idea what to do with it. Must have been fate!

andannabegins 11/29/2010 #

me too that's part of where the idea came from. anything glittery and i'll buy it and not have any idea what to do with it!

Nnyla 11/30/2010 #

LOL @andannabegins Sounds like me. I found some "sparkly" Crayola paper several years ago. Never had a use for it. Now, I do. It's about cardstock weight and has a sparkly, "prismish" surface. Maybe, there's still some around.
