Description:

In today's insane world, sometimes very unfair things happen to innocent people. In my email today, I received this cheerful "chain" email:

HOW TO STAY POSITIVE

  1. Try everything twice. On Madams tombstone (of Whelan's and Madam) she said she wanted this epitaph: Tried everything twice...loved it both times!

  2. Keep only cheerful friends. The grouches pull you down. (Keep this in mind if you are one of those grouches.)

  3. Keep learning: Learn more about the computer, crafts, gardening, whatever. Never let the brain get idle. "An idle mind is the devil's workshop." And the devil's name is Alzheimer's!

  4. Enjoy the simple things.

  5. Laugh often, long and loud. Laugh until you gasp for breath. And if you have a friend who makes you laugh, spend lots and lots of time with HIM/HER.

  6. The tears happen: Endure, grieve, and move on. The only person, who is with us our entire life, is ourselves. LIVE while you are alive.

  7. Surround yourself with what you love: Whether it's family, pets, keepsakes, music, plants, hobbies, whatever. Your home is your refuge.

  8. Cherish your health: If it is good, preserve it. If it is unstable, improve it. If it is beyond what you can improve, get help.

  9. Don't take guilt trips. Take a trip to the mall, even to the next county, to a foreign country, but NOT to where the guilt is.

  10. Tell the people you love that you love them, at every opportunity.

  11. Forgive now those who made you cry. You might not get a second time.

This swap is about writing a letter to your partner, either about one of these items and how it rings true for you, or about creating your own item #12 and how you practice it.

Let's stay positive and cheerful and bring some goodness in this world which is all too often filled with hatefulness and derogatory accusations and just plain old crappy days.

So it's that simple, just a letter to your partner about staying positive when the world around you is crazy!

And by the way, this is snail mail, and open to international as a simple international letter isn't expensive--usually about double what US postage for a simple letter is.

Also, you can write about more than one of the items listed above, but you are only required to choose one if that's all you want to do.

as an add on about #11, i'd like to add that not forgiving only hurts the one who didn't forgive. why allow them to add on more hurts to you, by holding the hurts to yourself?

great idea, by the way! i've never thought of using one of the many good chainmails as a swap!

This is a GREAT swap! I love finding a way to focus on the positive, especially when things around me -- in my world/my work -- aren't so great. Thank you for coming up with this swap!!

fearfulpenguin 09/20/2007 #

I hope it is snail mail - much more fun! :)

purplewhimsy 09/20/2007 #

Please note that I changed the title of the swap so that it would fit into the allotted number of characters! Everything else has stayed the same, though.

This Swap is a great idea. Thanks. A couple of questions- Can we send the positive message on a postcard or on stationary? Either way? The postive comment can be a short one or a long one? Stephanie (solarts)
