Swap description: A 70s Fabric Notebook

This swap was inspired by a tutorial I found on the Crafty Pod blog - the totally genius super simple way to cover a composition book (or notebook, to us non-US types). I'm terrified of a sewing machine but love funky 70s fabric so learning this easy trick has revolutionised my crafting repertoire!

For this swap, you will make each of your partners one 70s fabric covered notebook. You can use the technique above, or any other way to cover a notebook that you know of (I realise that more skilled seamstresses will have more options available to them!) - e.g. a removable slip-cover or...probably lots of other things, too...

The notebook itself can be storebought or handmade - see below for specifications. Here's a great tutorial if you want to make your own Moleskine-type Cahier (out of a cereal box) or feel free to use any other handbound notebook technique you prefer.

Swap requirements

  • 2 partners = 2 x 70s notebooks sent and 2 x 70s notebook received (one notebook to/from each partner).
  • front and back cover must be covered with 70s fabric. Fabrics may be vintage/thrifted, reproduction 70s designs, or contemporary designs that are 70s-inspired.
  • size of notebook is sender's choice, but must be no smaller than 9 x 14cm (Moleskine cahier-size).
  • notebooks must have a minimum 32 inner pages (counting front and back as separate pages).
  • style of notebook is sender's choice - whether ruled, lined, squared, or any other combination. Just remember it's a notebook and therefore must be practical for, um, making notes!
  • include a brief note for your partner including swap title and user name, any relevant notes about fabric (e.g. where you found it, why you chose that pattern) or notebook (e.g. if you made it, how), a friendly hello, etc.

To join this swap... ...you must have a rating of at least 4.9 with no 1s or unexplained 3s within the last 6 months.
