Description:

This swap is for all of you wine lovers! I love wine, I love to cozy up with a glass of wine (bottle of wine, if I have had a bad day.) This swap you have to send your partner anything wine related. You could send a dripless pourer, bottle stopper, wine carrier, a bottle opener, bottle of wine from your state or a bottle of wine that you made yourself, ANYTHING... Be creative, use your imgination!! AIM FOR HEARTS! I know at one time we have all been newbies, but this swap is not for newbies and you must have a good rating.. I will be checking profiles!! Have fun with this swap!!!!

OK, no wine is allowed, just wine accessories. Although I do trust everyone, I just do not like the idea of possibly shipping alcohol to a person under 21.

It is against the law to mail alcoholic beverages

livingleather 04/14/2010 #

how could it be, there are wine clubs?

MichelleZ 04/14/2010 #

It's true.

http://www.usps.com/aviationsecurity/

reads:.....Other items, such as alcoholic beverages (beer, wine, liquor), are not considered hazardous but are prohibited and boxes displaying such markings are also prohibited.

You can, however, have it sent via Fed Ex or UPS, but someone over 21 must sign for the shipment. Be prepared to spend an arm and a leg.

Also be aware that many swappers here are under 21 years of age. And many lie about their age in order to appear more credible. And providing alcohol to them is illegal. If you're caught, you could be prosecuted.

I'm not trying to flame anyone here. Just trying to make you aware that there are consequences.

laws very from state to state fed/ex is your best bet the postal service has a additional fee for what they call potentially hazardous material such as liquids that can leak & ruin other mail as well as the postal machines I have provided a link at to laws from state to state the biggest problem with this type of swap will be verifying age in most states You need to have a valid OLCC Winery License or a Growersรขโ‚ฌโ„ข Sales Privilege (GSP) License to ship wine (such brand owners should also hold a TTB Basic Permit as a Bonded Winery or Wine Wholesaler, respectively I like the idea its just to risky to mail wine

oh, having lived in france, i have such a fond relationship with wine...and todays my 21st birthday!! sorry, im excited...sheepish grin

dreamerkins 04/14/2010 #

even if the actual wine can't be shipped, there's always the paraphernalia. a unique wine glass? the non wine things mentioned? a small wall hanging of a vineyard?

dreamerkins 04/14/2010 #

ooo... wine bottle label swap could be awesome too!

GoingTwinsane 04/14/2010 #

How can it be illegal to mail alcohol if This Website ships to most states including Alaska and Hawaii?

MichelleZ 04/14/2010 #

Good Gravy people....

GoingTwinsane: the website you mentioned CLEARLY states:

All orders shipped or picked up in one of our stores require the presentation of identification designating as such, and require the signature of the adult presenting such verification. All shipments delivered by common carrier are labeled as containing alcohol and cannot be delivered without an adult signature

IT IS NOT MAILED...IT IS SHIPPED.

And BEWARE sending to minors. Even if its unitentional....you can be prosecuted. Prosecuted means that you can go to jail.

To be safe rather than sorry, if I decide to send a bottle of Texas wine, there are plenty of winery's that do ship, and hopefully my partner will be in a state that can be shipped to. And vice-versa for me. But, if my partner's state can't ship to me, that is okay. I'm just as happy getting all the other wine stuff.

I was in a wine swap here a couple of years ago and I learned that in fact, it is illegal to ship alcohol of any kind. The exception is if you have a LICENSE to sell/buy alcohol. So, if it is shipped to a local liquor store or restaurant (with their permission, of course), you can pick it up there. The laws are pretty strict on this.

Hmm.. wow, I never thought of this! LOL, I was just thinking of everything FUN, lol. Hmm... Well, I know that my UPS guy delivers Wine to me by the box, I just show my ID (well he knows me now) and he is on his merry way!

I make wine (for personal use only) but I am not a reseller. Here in CT the laws are very strict. I have been unable to find a way to legally ship my home made wine. I think licensed wineries are able to ship, but that gets pretty expensive here. I'm open to anything wine related....love it! Can't wait for the swap to begin!

Ohh... good thinking... Wine labels could be fun too!!! Im getting Married in St. Thomas and coming back and having a reception.. Our friend is making us 24 bottles of wine (he knows my passion, lol) and we have been thinking what we want to do for labels!!! :)
