Last day to signup/drop:March 29, 2010
Date items must be sent by:April 29, 2010

Description:

In this swap, we will create one art doll using found objects. The doll may be human-ish (any gender(s)), animal-ish, or some creature of fantasy - creator's choice. You may consider your partner's profile, but it is not required and should not inhibit creativity.

The Challenge:

  1. The doll must be three-dimensional and not flat.

  2. The doll must be at least six inches in length or width.

  3. DO NOT USE: paint, markers or other writing instruments, paper or paper products, cardboard, tape or stickers in creating the doll.

  4. You must use at least ten DIFFERENT objects to create the doll. For example, if you use buttons in creating the doll, all of the buttons you use count as one object - "buttons."

  5. Attach a tag to your finished doll, naming your artwork and listing the objects you used to create your mixed media masterpiece. Send your partner a doll that you would be happy to receive. Rate as you would like to be rated.

The Fine Print: To join this swap, you must have a 5.0 rating and have at least ten rated package swaps.

Answers to frequently asked questions:

The swap is regional USA in an effort to decrease postage costs.

The value of the doll is directly related to the creator's creativity, which has no definable monetary value.

Requesting that your partner send or not send a particular style of doll inhibits creativity, which is counterproductive to the intent of this swap.

The lack of swap graphics on this swap description is deliberate and intentional so as not to influence creators to follow a particular style of doll.

Common, recognizable doll styles, such as "dotee dolls," are discouraged in favor of originality.

Too bad this is USA only...

I wrestled with the regional/international decision for quite some time. If I make it regional, then I'm leaving out friends in other countries. If I make it international, then I'm leaving out friends who can't pay much postage. So I compromised and decided to try the swap regional first and then if many people join, I'll do an international one next.

:(

OK, I'll throw my name in the hat for 'international', when that swap comes up! This is so far up my street it could've been something I would have hosted. Keep me on the list!

Why no paint? I'm not complaining, just curious. It looks like an awesome swap!

Masterbard, unless this one is a total disaster, I know I'll do an international one.

ChinaCat, I think it's more of a challenge to find different objects to create the details of the doll rather than painting them in. And paint goes so well with paper, which is also on the "do not use" list.

Okay, wait... I need a visual. Well, not an actual visual... but word pictures. I can sew? I need to use ten different types of media? Not actually 'found' like garbage but 'found' like going through cabinets and drawers is fine, right? Like, wire, ribbon, tea cups, WHATEVER?

MMMM I like the idea. but not the no paint idea...or no paper..I use paper clay for heads and paint just a little mixed media wise leaves me out for my style of altered art...Also could possibly stretch my wings a little to try something different but there are quite a few doll swaps going on that are due at the end of April that I am signed up for which leaves me out as well..Peace...

hollycm6, I could have written "mixed media" instead of found objects, but I wanted to convey the idea that any objects could be used to create the doll and you don't have to go out and buy any "ingredients." Any clean things you have around your house could be used as long as they are not in the "do not use" list.

jewelrydoll180, I understand that not everyone will be up for this challenge. Maybe you'll stretch your wings another time :)
