Description: | |
Postage stamps as we know them today are the continuation of a concept that originated hundreds (thousands?) of years ago, when hand-carved seals were pressed into wax or stamped with ink, as a 'signature' on a letter. I thought it would be nice to adapt this idea, and create our own faux postage, from a hand-carved stamp. You can carve your stamp from whatever you like that will make a print Γ’β¬β try corkboard, mousemat, potato, or for the more traditional, eraser or lino! Your stamps should have the appearance of a 'real' postage stamp, but you can get creative & use artistic license with the details. The perforations can be real holes (apparently an unthreaded sewing machine works for this; or just use a perforating blade on your paper trimmer!), cut with decorative edge scissors, or be 'faux' perforations as part of your stamp image. It would be good if your stamps were stick-able for your partners to use, but there is always glue! Alternatives include: printing on gummed or self-adhesive paper, applying lick'n'stick envelope glue, or adding a strip of double-sided tape to the reverse. You will make a total of 10 individual stamps each for 3 partners, so you will make 30 stamps in total. You can make your 10 stamps from the same image, or create a mini-series! Size of each stamp should be, well, postage stamp sized; as a rough guide somewhere between 2 x 2.5cm and 5 x 7cm. The stamps can be individually cut, or joined on a sheet. This is a group swap for members of Zines, Mail Art & other cool stuff. I've checked people's ratings as they've joined the group, but I will check through again before partners are assigned, to do my best to avoid disappointment in this swap. Please only sign up if you have the time & inclination to complete the swap! |
