Description:

Over the next several months, I thought it would be great to build a Christmas Idea Book full of recipes, patterns, decorating ideas and other fun Christmas information. Imagine filling a three ring binder full of favorite recipes and ideas! When I assign partners, I will set the partner count so that everyone will receive from everybody else!

For this swap, all you have to do is send an e-mail to each of your partners with the following:

  • One Christmas Recipe
  • One Pattern/Tutorial to Make Something for Christmas
  • One Christmas Decorating Idea or a Christmas Story or a Christmas Poem or a Family Tradition

Guidelines on how to send the information:
Be sure to indicate your swap-bot name and the swap name on your e-mail Also, try to send the information in a format that is easily printed and put into a binder. This could mean in a file format like .pdf or .doc. If someone would prefer to mail their swaps, that is fine as long as they stay within the deadlines of the swap.

Note: Please be sensitive to copyrights, we are using this for personal use only but it is appropriate to identify who or where we found the information.

Rules are that you have to be in the group, have no unexplained or recent ones, and have your profile filled out.

I just want to provide a suggestion- for those who have Gmail as their email addy source- you can make a document (.doc) from there. I just made one for the 1st time yesterday and it worked. (I wanted to make sure it saved as .doc before joining this swap)

To make a document in Goggle Mail (gmail)-

  • sign in to your gmail account

  • on the top left you'll see "Gmail" "Calendar" "Documents"

  • click on Documents

  • the in the BLUE header you'll see NEW

  • click on NEW

  • on the drop down menu click on DOCUMENTS and a new tab/window will open

  • enter text (this is your document)

  • when finished SAVE and voila - it saves as .doc

Now if you want to share (send) the .doc

  • click on solid blue tab SHARE (upper right)

  • click on Email as Attachment

  • then enter email addy's. Now here's where it's kinda tricky- it does NOT give you the BCC (blind carbon copy) option. I know some people are uncomfortable with having their email addy's shown for all to see when sending an email (for spam reasons). So what I did was emailed it to myself - THEN I forwarded the email to partners using the fwd. and BCC option. The .doc will be forwarded. Voila

If you have any questions- feel free to pm me. Good Luck!

So for this swap...I can make a binder and fill the pages and send it that way too?

MrsAnnaSue 06/ 6/2009 #

@RyeRye Thank you for your question! This is just round 1, so we will only send one document/attachment for each category to each of our partners- no binders. Though that would make a great swap on its own!

For example: for this swap I may send one Fudge Recipe, one Quilt Pattern and one tip to decorate your dinner table to all of my partners via e-mail. The recipe may be something I typed up on a word document (.doc file). The quilt pattern may be one I downloaded off the internet from a craft blog and is in .pdf file format. Finally the tip to decorate the table may be something I clipped from a magazine years ago and I may scan it into a .pdf file. ( Note: you can type them all in a word document, or scan them all in .pdf file format or any combination you would like).

These three attachments would make up my e-mail that I would send to all my partners.

This is a bit new and different, so please ask all the questions you like. We will do our best to walk you through this. The fun part is that you will share with your partners your Christmas finds and they with you.

Is it acceptable to provide the link to a pattern. Say if I found a pattern on a website or blog- can I provide a direct link? This way someone can bookmark it or download it from there (if allowed) ??

I will join when it gets closer and I am caught up...

MrsAnnaSue 06/25/2009 #

@AwtemNymf - If at all possible it would be nice to have the attachment. I have found that websites pull their pages frequently and in some cases I have lost the patter/tutorial.

I have sent mine via email today. Please let me know if you don't receive it so I can re-send! Thanks! ~A~
