Hello!

I'd like to host an international swap for Haiku lovers! We will each send 3 partners at least one haiku each on handmade postcards, more are optional. You must send them as handmade postcards. So you will send three postcards out total. Haiku can be either on the front or back.

If you have a rating lower than 3.5 or have any no-sends, you will be banned. Please don't sign up if you're not going to send anything. I can't be responsible for no-sends, although I'll do my best if it's a problem.

Happy Swapping!!! <3 Chai

If you need help writing haiku, here's a reminder: Haiku is a poetic form originating in Japan. As written in English, haiku are extremely short poems written in 17 syllables or fewer, often (but not necessarily) arranged in three lines of 5, 7, and 5 syllables each. Haiku make use of concrete imagery or sensations, not abstractions or metaphors, and are often (though not always) concerned with the natural world. The important thing is to write about the experience or the image, not about the feelings themselves. These feelings will be most powerful if suggested indirectly, by letting the reader experience the image that the haiku conveys, rather than by trying to tell the reader what to feel.

Is this swap limited to our own original Haiku?

Chai 05/15/2007 #

Well, I guess it doesn't have to be. If you use another person's haiku though, be sure and give them credit. :)

ooOoooo... I love doing Haiku. I loved the last haiku postcard and haiku card series they had... this would be wicked. :) (yep, I write my own. I can't swear they're all that GOOD, but hey, I liked doing 'em!)

dear fellow swappers, I am leaving on vacation in a few days, and since the swap partners have not been assigned as of June 4, I doubt I'll have time to get them out before I go (packing, etc). I promise I wil get them out when I return.

Dang, I got mind done today (phew!) but it's 12:08... so I suppose that makes me late. (grin) ...they'll go out tomorrow AM tho, so they're on their way!

This was a real challenge and a lot of fun, actually... a good swap!
