Remember this from grade school?? This technique is based on Mexican Yarn Painting - where you create a design or picture then glue in the yarn to 'paint' it in. 1 partner, 1 atc made in the style of a mexican yarn painting. If you are on Instagram, please post a pic and use the hashtag #cpgswap. You can find a tutorial here, here and here We will make an atc size painting which will be a bit easier because it's smaller but also a bit harder cause sometimes its hard to get yarn onto such a small item. Please use a sturdy backing - this might require cardboard or a sticky board if you are lucky enough to have one. The entire surface of your atc does not need to be covered with yarn but don't glue on a few bits of yarn and call it a day! Let's see some effort, creativity and art!! Your atc can be abstract or representational. Traditionally, "the yarn pictures often depict the "faces" of the wind, ripe corn, or other important symbols; yarn designs of serpents, waves, or water gourds express a wish for rain while pictures of corn and the sun are offered in hopes of a good harvest." Given the size of an atc, I don't expect these will be very intricate! Examples: |
