Description:

This is an ongoing monthly swap, you may join in when ever you feel like it. Your partner will be paper piecing the received cut out hexagons to her quilt top. Our aim is to make ourselves a hand paper-pieced hexagon coverlet (simple quilt top, lined). The sewing process is calming and very easy to master in an hour. Instructions are in the Forum.

SWAP: Using the large clear 2" sides template, (See forum guide). You will cut 6 hexagons (or 8 if your partner is forming a diamond) perhaps from a border print. In Georgian era colours. These are typically soft hues no garish colours. Especially no solid black areas, as it wasn't invented yet. (see forum for colour swatches) Place between a protective cover of card, in an envelope. Include a short note to your partner mentioning why you chose this fabric, perhaps in your characters voice if you have one, and send out before send date.

Ladies, it is perfectly okay to send a plain cut of your floral or plain cloth or/with hand drawn imagery. I hope this will encourage others to join in our swap.

This link below is only for the adventurous amongst us. Those who are wanting a challenge for themselves. https://jinnybeyer.com/fussy-cutting-border-prints-for-hexagons/

The above link will show you how to "fussy cut" your pre-washed cotton material if you are not sure how to go about it. If you are making a grandmothers garden coverlet top, then you only need 6 hexagons for each circle to send to your partner. The partner will choose their own centre hexagon.

If you are cutting 8 hexagons the design will resemble a diamond shape much like a circle with an added hexie top and bottom. By surrounding each of the made up hexagons in a grandmothers garden style or in diamonds with plain cloth, the design really stands out. Perhaps indicate below if you prefer 6 or 8 hexies.

I do hope we have tempted you to try this hand-piecing technique.

I rather think mine might grace a dining table top when it is done.

Any queries please write below or pm me. I am always willing to help.

And ladies, please be kind with rating your partner. Many of our members are new to selecting fabric, and hexagons.

Kindly yours, Lady Caroline.
