Description:

I recently stumbled across this post - How to Write a Memoir Short Story by Clint Archer and thought that a swap to practice our memoir writing skills would be a perfect vessel for this practice.

For this swap, you'll send your partner a short memoir. From the post linked above, the memoir should incorporate the following elements:

  • Be written in the first person. This is your story.

  • When introducing someone new, be sure to use names of people as if they were already familiar to your readers. In other words, don’t introduce your wife as “Suzy, my wife,” just mention Suzy and use context to show her role.

  • Decide on one point you would like to convey. Use the story as the vehicle.

Finally, this should be typed and no less than 500 words, no more than 1500.

In a Nutshell:

  • 1 typed memoir short story to 1 partner.

  • Use the guidance in the swap description when writing.

The Administrivia

  • Include your username and the swap name in the swap.

  • Send on time. Rate promptly upon receipt. Sending late without communication warrants a 3 rating and removal from the group. Not rating or having to be chased for a rating also warrants removal from the group. Communicate and rate.

  • Rate according to the Swap-Bot Rating Criteria. Failure to rate your partner or to rate correctly will result in your removal from this group.

  • If you are going to be late sending, make sure you let your partner and me know prior to the send-by date.

  • Hearts are purely at the discretion of the rater.

  • If you flake, you will be removed immediately from this group.

  • If you are flaked on, let me know. I will angel this swap after you rate a 1.

  • Questions? DM or leave a comment!

Question for you, my printer is on the fritz so could I send my story by email and send a quick letter by snail mail to complete the swap. Finances are holding back a resolution to the printer problem. Thanks

@jukejan - I'm hesitant to say yes ONLY because I don't want everyone to think that it's OK, or what we're supposed to do. I understand your circumstance, and if I were your partner I'd be happy to accept that - but I feel that this is something best worked out between you and your partner. Is there any way you could take it to a local library to print?

I could ask when I go and volunteer today at Hyannis Pub Lib. Thanks for the idea.
