Description:

Give: Raw materials

Receive: A finished product

This is a swap for people who have nice craft items and wonder what someone else would make of them. Or people who would like a little craft challenge

On the send date you send some craft items to your partner. Things you like and things that coudl reasonably be used together.

To keep postage and crafting time sensible the 'raw items' muts weigh no more than 100g or 4oz excluding packing.

By the 9TH JUNE you will have made somthng of your choice with teh raw materials and will post it back to the person who sent them. (Don't forget to give your full postal details.

There is plenty of time to allow for reecipt of materials and crafting. As swapbot will only prompt the the fisrt date will email you all to remind about the 9th JUNE deadline but do ask you to note it now and stick to it.

Becuase this swap requires real trust in that you are parting with something you like ine th hope of getting it back I am being very strict - you need 10x 5 ratings on your profile to particpate. If this excludes you but you wanted to to it let me know and I can repeat it later when you will have built up your ratings. I want only consitent and committed swappers for this one.

You can add materials to make the finished product or not - it's up to you. Try to use all that is sent but if that is not possible return the unused items unless your partner agrees you need not.

As per suggestions posted below, if you like post comments with the crafts you cannot do, or can do well, so that your partner can take this into account when they send stuff. But also note- if you don't knit, say, but get sent yarn, its fine to do somthing really wacky with that yarn. the ideas is to stretch imaginations both sides of the swap.

Any questions -ask away!

Finaly can I 'abuse' my position as host to alert you to a swap for charity going on at http://www.swap-bot.com/swap/show/2645 called Swap a Goat. I would be grateful if you coudl just check that out and see if it is for you. If it's a choice between this swap and that one - join that one!

Do you think we should post crafts we CAN'T do?? I'm just thinking that if someone sends me yarn and a crotchet hook or knitting needle, they'd be out of luck, because I don't know how to knit or crotchet. This sounds really fun, and I love the strict rating, we need more of those!

user3051 03/15/2007 #

or post crafts we can't do like you can't knit BUT damn you have the most beautiful yarn if only someone could knit you a scarf?

user6613 03/15/2007 #

This sounds like a fantastic swap idea... but I'm too new. Please host another one in future so I can earn some ratings. Thanks!

FingersInc 03/15/2007 #

Boy, I agree, is there a way we could possibly post what crafts we ARE able to do, so our sender can send us things we could do something with for them? ie: the above, where say someone sends me yarn, but I can't knit or crochet...then what could I do with the yarn? this could be a fun "think out of the box" project. I'm game! ( but on the other hand, I can do most crafts).

ukquilter 03/16/2007 #

Hi - all good points above. I had thought that the fun would be that if you got yarn you didn't need to do the obvious with it and might say make tassels with it. The idea being to get something with materials you liked but in a way you yourself would never have thought of. or to see it as an opportunity to learn a craft. But yes, thinking about it, by all means post what you really think you would struggle with. that makes sense becuase then your partner won't get disappointed. I haev ammended the description to reflect this. Thanks for your interest in my swap - I get really excited when its not ignored!!

brokeneyeball 03/18/2007 #

my friend was telling me that something like this would be great swap. I only have nine ratings right now, theyre all 5 though, I might sign up later..

brokeneyeball 03/18/2007 #

this does sound fun! ill join!

user2310 03/19/2007 #

Well I'm quite good at handmade jewellry and I enjoy paper crafts but if you don't mind receiving something that's a little higgledy piggledy and not quite so perfect that I'm willing to have a go at anything. Just a small warning though -I am absolutely appalling at sewing (can handstitch but that's about it) and i can only knit in a straight line (think scarves) :p

alwaysjoy 03/20/2007 #

Do we have to post what we can do? I would much like to get whatever my partner sends to me and figure out something in my scope that I can do... It might not be what they had in mind but I think it will be fun!

ukquilter 03/24/2007 #

Ok. If you want to post what you can do or cannot do then post that information. If you don't want to - dont!

LINBUR0100 04/ 2/2007 #

What a great idea.

Two things I cannot do: Anything with a sewing machine or anything with power tools. Actually, I'm farily capable of doing things with them; it's just that I do not currently own nor have access to either of them at this moment in time.

Really looking forward to this one!

This is the swap I've been hoping for! I can't wait for this one to start. Maybe, if all goes well, this can be an ongoing swap?

Basilika 04/16/2007 #

Aw, such a fun idea and me with only half the required ratings :( If this goes well and you decide to do it again I'd definitely sign up.

sarachattom 04/16/2007 #

I think this is a very cool idea for a swap - count me in!

Also - when you're preparing the raw goods to send out check your partners profile. There is the 'favorite crafts' section!

ukquilter 04/17/2007 #

Please note I have extended the swap date for this swap - entirely for my own conevnience ( that's the joy of being host!) Of course you can still send earlier by the original date of 29th April if you can.

ukquilter 04/17/2007 #

OK. I am stupid. Ignore that - I forgot that I'd said only to send the craft items by the swap date and not to make them by that date. Duh!! I have ammended it back. To be clear - send the craft raw products by 29th April. Send finish article back by 9th June. (Very early in the day here... that's my excuse!

FarStarr 04/19/2007 #

All right...I'm game. Can we add items to what we are sent? Also, I don't knit, but don't worry I'll do something wonderful with whatever is sent! Sounds like a fun challenge!

FarStarr 04/19/2007 #

Sorry..duh...I now see that we can add to what we are sent...

Bearynice 04/19/2007 #

Helen ,its Bev, I would love to be in this swap but I am not up to 10 ratings yet but have quite a few hearts and I can asure you I wont let you down. Can I join?

boatingbelle 04/20/2007 #

I wasn't sure if this was Internetional because of the weight limits, then I read your profile and see that you are in the UK the same as me, so.......no problem!!

FunToScrap 04/21/2007 #

What a GREAT idea, Helen! I am too scared to join because I don;t know if I'll be able to think of anything to create. I get that way sometimes. Have fun, people.

Warmly, Chy
