Description:

Way back in October when this group was fresh and new, we held the Day in the Life Letter swap. Well, today as I was eating lunch and taking a trip down memory lane, I recalled the Day in the Life Photo Journal group I used to be part of on LiveJournal (back when that was a thing and I remembered my login information...). And I thought to myself, "Self, you used to LOVE doing those posts. Why don't we do a hard copy version in Renaissance Magpies?" And then I thought, "Self, you're brilliant! Best idea you've had all day!!"

So this will be a bit like the original A Day in the Life swap hosted back when, in that there is a letter component required, but this time we'll do it with a photo twist.

For this swap, we're going to arm ourselves with our camera (phone or DSLR or Polaroid or...whatever your camera is) and photo document our lives for a day. It can be any day of your choosing so conceivably, if you want to document tomorrow and you sign up today, by all means, you go!

A typical Day in Life post over in that group I mentioned on LJ would have anywhere from 20 - 30 photos per post (more is fine, less than 20 is not), and each one would be accompanied by a fairly detailed description - in this case meaning at least 2 - 3 sentences. More is better, less is not.

So...get your camera. Have it ready when you wake up. Start shooting...and when your day is done, print out the photos. Use double-sided tape, glue, or some permanent adhesive of your choosing to fix the photos to your stationery, and build a letter around the photos!

Letters will be handwritten. They may not be typed unless both hands have been severed from your body or you have such a debilitating disease that handwriting more than a sentence will have you in so much pain you can't focus. If either of these scenarios is the case...I really wish you hadn't done something so silly that you wound up with no hands, but please message your partner to let them know and make sure they're ok with it.

As a note to this - Most of the letter and journal swaps I host will be for handwritten only. There's something more personal about handwritten swaps and letters that better engages the recipient (even if you don't conscientiously realize it), and studies have proven time and again that hand writing is good for mental acuity. Personally, I need all of the mental acuity I can get. With that said though, if the swap states that it is to be handwritten only (or hadnwritten with only certain, dire circumstances as exceptions), please don't ask if it can be typed...

Ok...so. In a nutshell:

  • 1 series of photos taken by you, documenting your day from wake-up til bedtime. Minimum of 20 photos - no maximum.

  • Print said photos and tape/glue/somehow adhere them to your stationery.

  • Write a letter to your partner that describes what's happening in each photo. Caption each photo with at least two sentences. So for instance, if I take a picture of my alarm clock being beaten to death by me, I'd caption it, "Ugh. Wakey time at oh-my-God-insanely-early-o'clock. Die, clock, Die!" or something like that. Make sense? Good.

  • 1 Day in the Life Photo/Letter to one partner.

The Administrivia

  • Include your username and the swap name in the swap.

  • Send on time. Rate promptly upon receipt. Sending late without communication warrants a 3 rating and removal from the group. Not rating or having to be chased for a rating also warrants removal from the group. Communicate and rate.

  • Rate according to the Swap-Bot Rating Criteria. Failure to rate your partner or to rate correctly will result in your removal from this group.

  • If you are going to be late sending, make sure you let your partner and me know prior to the send-by date.

  • Hearts are purely at the discretion of the rater.

  • If you flake, you will be removed immediately from this group.

  • If you are flaked on, let me know. I will angel this swap after you rate a 1.
