Description:

We are trying something new with this swap! Instead of sticker bags, label bags and other types of bags, let's do Washi Bags!

We will send our partner 2 washi bags.

How washi bags work:

Take a bag or envelope and fill it with individually wrapped washi samples (I recommend 10). On the outside of the bag include the following:

  • "Washi Bag"
  • Your address, or the address of the person you want to receive the bag when it is completed
  • Instructions for how many samples to take out/add
  • A spot for people to sign
  • Any specific preferences for washi tape

For exaple, my bags say "Take out 5 samples and add 10 new samples. Each washi sample should be at least 15 inches. Sign and date. Last person to sign, please send home. Please no dollar store, Studio G, glitter tapes or plain colored tapes. Thank you!"

I created mine in an envelope. but if you want to make yours out of a small plastic bag, or a paper bag that is fine too - whatever works for you. My bags will have 5 people sign before it is sent back to me. I also put "made by and for:" above my address.

Feel free to change up aspects of the washi bags. For example, you could request the people who sign take out 4 and add 8, or you have a six people sign the bag before it is sent to you. Or maybe you want to change the legth requirements of the samples, etc.

You will send your washi bags to your assigned partner. When you receive the bags in the mail, follow the instructions on the bag. You can either go ahead and mail it to someone you know will like it and will pass it on, or wait until we have another swap for washi bags. Make sure you don't mail the washi bags on to someone who has already signed the bag, or to the person the bag is intended for.

I hope this was clear enough! I'm new to hosting so let me know if there is anything I should change or clarify to make this swap better. ;)

I don't think I understand - sorry :(

If we only have one partner and send two bags to them - how do we end up with 5 people?

Sounds fun - but do not understand..... :)

See the "Washi Bags tutorial" in the WOW! Group Forum for more information.

The bag will be sent through several rounds. So for this round, the new bags will get the first signature on it. It will have to be passed on through several swaps in order for it to achieve all the signatures (and for everyone to take out and add the appropriate amount of samples) at which point it will be sent back to you.

I hope that helps! :)

I've received tape samples wrapped around the plastic "do-hickey" things that are shown in the swap icon here. Does anyone know where I could get some?

ArtyBeth3 - Those are floss minders. They can be found in the embroidery department of any fabric/craft store like JoAnn Fabrics, etc. Mine are heavy cardboard and I wrap a piece of Scotch tape around it first. Makes for a great sample. Hope this helps!

Thanks @DeBovine :)

I ended up adding clear packing tape to card stock and then cutting it into 2" x 1 1/4" pieces. I wrapped the tape in the middle of each of 10 pieces and then overlapped the cards in two rows of 5, side by side. I then put the 2 rows on a piece of card stock and added a long piece of washi tape to each row of 5 to stick them together, wrapping the ends around the card stock on the back. These then fit nicely into a regular card size envelope, which I decorated and added the bag information to.

Of course, most of you have probably already done these "bags" before so are "old pros."

Although I wonder if the envelopes will be big enough by the time the last person has added their tapes? With sticker bags they would be flat, but the tape does add a bit more dimension...

I suppose you just need to guess how big your envelope or bag needs to be - we will know better for next time.

Okay - so I just received mine - I take out 5 - add 10 total ? or each bag (envelope) and then wait for the next round?
