Description:

Dia De Los Muertos is celebrated the 1st and 2nd of November. The figure featured above is La Catrina. Popularized by José Guadalupe Posada, she is the skeleton of a high society woman. She is one of the most popular figures of the Dia De Los Muertos celebrations in Mexico.â€Â

The word catrina is the feminine for the word catrín, which in turn means "dandy". La Catrina was created with intensions to show that the rich and fashionable are just as susceptible to death as anyone else. She is one of a collection housed in the City Museum of León, Guanajuato, Mexico.

I would like to have a La Catrina art doll swap to celebrate the holiday.

We will have 1 partner.

We will create one La Catrina doll.

She will be a cloth doll and she should be no smaller than 5 inches. You can go larger, but no smaller please. You may make her from muslin (or any cotton fabric), felt or wool. When choosing your fabric for the base of the doll frame, think white, off white, tan or a light brown. We will use our bright colors in her apparel. She may be hand sewn or machine sewn or a mix of the two. If you would just prefer to buy an already made doll frame, they can be purchased on line and at craft stores. A good source for muslin doll frames is Articus Studios. She has a nice 5 inch muslin doll for $1.50 and she ships out fast. But you will still need to know how to sew for she will need a dress and accessories. And there are many other outlets on the internet that sell premade doll forms.

For better views of La Catrinas, you could do an internet search. There are all sorts of pictures out there.

Since this is a swap of some spent time and requires thought and care, I am limiting it to those who have a 4.9 rating and no 1 ratings for the past 5 months prior to the signup deadline.

Let’s try to create something that we can be proud of. And Please try to get your swaps out on time.

As always, have fun.

what an awesome idea! I bought a beautiful ceramic catrin and catrina in nogales, a cowgirl and cowboy! they are treasures! I would love to see what you all come up with, I don't feel confident enough in dollmaking to join you but it sounds like fun!
