Happy Fall, Photogs!

Not too long ago I visited a blog in which the photographer, Amy Saab, posted "flawed" roses in black and white. She "removed the color to show their beautiful structure." I've done the same thing--with flowers, buildings, people.

Even without "flaws," there's something about black and white photography that reveals the beauty of a thing in ways that we miss because of all the color. Don't get me wrong. I love the brilliance of color photography, but there's something about seeing a flower composed in black and white that can be breathtaking.

For this swap, you will play around with black and white and flowers. Take a few shots. Alter a few shots. Then, pick what you consider your best two and send them to your partner. If you're converting to black and white (rather than shooting in black and white), it might be fun to send your partner before and after pics (not required).

Tell your partner a little about the photos, about your experience with the shots, and (maybe) how you feel about B&W floral photography.

Sender's choice for presentation.

In case you're interested (and need a little inspiration), check out Amy Saab's blog. The following link leads to the post with the black and white roses, but if you do a search, you'll see she has many black and white flowers...even more roses: The Roses Had Spots.

Dropping in mailbox today and marking sent so I don't forget. But it is a holiday so it won't be postmarked until the 14th. :-)
