Description:

This is a swap for those of us who have trouble drawing a stick man. lol

If you are artistic, you are welcome to join, but this swap is primarily for those of us who haven't an artistic bone in our bodies.

I have been wanting to try zentangles for a while now and thought a small ATC size might be easier to start with.

So, make a zentangle ATC for your partner.

Your zentangle must be done completely in black ink by hand (with a black fine tip marker, technical pen, etc.) on a white background.

No colour, shading, etc. allowed for this one.

Some say it is acceptable to use a pencil to draft your zentangle (but be sure to erase any pencil marks showing after you have gone over it with the black ink). Purists say no pencil or eraser is ever allowed; it's just you, a pen and your zen. Since this is a beginner's swap, no one will be penalized for using a pencil and eraser if they find that easier.

Keep it simple, no need to get fancy if this is your first try. Maybe just take one pattern and repeat it to get yourself started. (The above image shows the steps involved in developing that particular pattern.)

Easy patterns for beginners

Be sure to make it on sturdy paper or add a backing, and don't forget to put the minimum required info on the back (title, date, SB name, and swap name).

Just do your best and have fun!

P.S.B.S. You know the drill.

Since I know nothing about zentangles, any resident S experts are certainly welcome to provide advice, guidance here. (";)

Terry your swap description and directions are spot on. What I like about drawing zentangles is that it is a form of self-hypnosis -- you take a couple of deep breaths, focus on drawing a repetitive pattern and neatly as you can, and while that is happening the world just kind of drops away for a bit. It is very relaxing!

If you don't mind I'll add a link to my favorite zentangle pattern site. Click on any pattern and it will show you step by step how to draw it.

Tangle Patterns

And from experience I find that some patterns are a blast to draw and that some are stressful and difficult. So believe me, I avoid the latter. As Terry said -- have fun with it. Find patterns that are relaxing and fun to draw.

Well my first attempt was just awful and went straight in the recycle bin - all scrunched up so there was no chance of retrieval. lol But my second one turned out ok, and if I can do zentangling, anyone can. (";)
