Description:

Hello swappers new to the series, watchers from round 1 and the faithful Miss O! Time for round 2!

The first swap was inspired by the efforts of the Femen group, but this time it's the turn of the suffragettes!

These were the women that campaigned for women to have the vote, for better jobs and health care, for equality between the sexes amongst other things.

Some of you may or may not be aware that this year on June 4th is the 100 year anniversary of Emily Wilding Davison's protest at the Epsom Derby, which sadly cost Emily her life.

(A memorial tribute to Emily and a small amount of info on her can be found here

Some of you may have family who were present during suffrage protests, so you may draw upon those family stories/ histories to inspire your ATC.

Others may be familiar with the protests against force feeding useful news article here

There are many protests carried out by these women, their female descendants and others who were loyal to the cause, the above are examples of the acts of these great women and may help you to create your ATC.

Where ever you draw your inspiration for your ATC from, don't forget that it's about "Deeds not Words"

OK, so the rules bit: you must have a 4.95 rating minimum, but newbies are allowed as I am willing to angel. You must live in the United Kingdom as this is a regional swap. Your ATC must be of the correct size of 21Γ’Ββ€ž2 by 31Γ’Ββ€ž2 inches (64 mm Γƒβ€” 89 mm) Any medium is allowed, including photography should you wish to recreate a protest within the confines pf your own property. (don't go out in the street and get arrested, ok?) lol Due to the weight and thickness of the average atc, these can be sent out using a 2nd class stamp, so it's nice and purse friendly. It is up to the sender if they include any extras, but hearts should be given on the effort put into the ATC, not on anything else.

I do give permission for an international version to be hosted, as long as due credit is given.

Any questions, thoughts? please post below.

other swaps planned in the series:

3 Riot grrrl
4 Lipstick feminism
5 Craftivist Collective (this group use crafts as a medium of peaceful protest - suitable for all swappers)

the title has been cut off...it should be "Suffragettes"

i've never made an ATC, but this group interests me. i am sad that i missed out on the first swap :(

I can always repeat it on the anniversary of the protest that inspired me! new to ATC's swappers are welcome as everyone has to start somewhere! I encourage swappers to rate their partners on effort (how much they tried) rather than extras or other things.

Just curious as to why you made these UK-only -- postage costs? Seems like there might be more than local interest ...

kittenred 05/ 9/2013 #

it is mostly due to postage.... it now costs the equivilent of a dollar just to send a post card to anywhere outside of the UK.... to send even a flat ATC it is now £1.80 (not that far off $3) makes me go ouch! every time i visit the post office.

rngstgstll 05/10/2013 #

Wow! US $1.10 for a first-class overseas letter here, $2.05 for a heavier or awkwardly-shaped one -- I guess I shouldn't complain!

kittenred 05/25/2013 #

Dates extended to give watchers a chance to join!
