Description:

Hindu Diwali, the festival of lights is Nov 13-17 this year, so let's create a rangoli design and send it to our partners. Non-symmetrical design preferred. At least 6 x 6 inches, not more than 12 x 12 inches (15x15 to 31x31), but it does not need to be square. non- nor symmetrical.

What is Rangoli ?

  • some say a form of mandala
  • decorative folk art, also known as kolam or alpana
  • does not need to be symmetrical.
  • should include traditional auspicious symbols such as: lotus flower, its leaves, mango, Tue vase, fish, different kind birds, parrot, swan, peacock, human figures and foliage.
  • Any medium: assuming marker, colored pencil, pastel, chalk, etc. on card stock, watercolor or other thick paper. (What about traditional mediums? I don't know if you can get rice powder to behave and stay with some adhesive spray after - never tried but if you can make it work and get it mailed without smudging, go for it. The same it true with flower petals, however, please NOTE that this is an international swap. Dried flowers will not be allowed into Australia, don't know any other countries where it would be an issue and I suspect that at least Australia would not like rice powder either. Please check before mailing!

International. 4.9 rating required. I will check profiles. Click for picture of some traditional rangoli on the web, or just do your own search. Enjoy!

I'd love to know more about this swap, but can't read the description well. Is there a fix out there -- I've seen other swap descriptions have the same problem ...

Let me know if we want a Postcard size later - but this is at least 6 x 6 inches (or 15 x 15 cm) so I assumed in an envie.

thanks @sebastian122 ! All: remember they do not need to be symmetrical although they can be & many are.
