Description:

For 2012, sagesparrow has been hosting a mandala series, one a month for the year. (I am only serving as backup coordinator for October and December, with her permission). This is still her swap that she created. Join in on all or one: it's up to you.

You draw or zentangle your mandala and then you can fill it in with color either with colored pencils, pens, markers or paint. Please put some time and effort into this, as it is supposed to be a series of intricate connected shapes filling the circle. It is not enough to color in a mandala that you have printed from someone else or to glue things inside a circle.

From the website: http://www.art-is-fun.com/how-to-draw-a-mandala.html Here is a definition of a mandala and a tutorial on how to draw a simple mandala:

"A mandala is a complex abstract design that is usually circular in form. In fact, "mandala" is a Sanskrit word that means "circle". Mandalas generally have one identifiable center point, from which emanates an array of symbols, shapes and forms. Mandalas can contain both geometric and organic forms. They can also contain recognizable images that carry meaning for the person who is creating it. In essence, mandalas represent the connection between our inner worlds and outer reality."

In order to possibly bind the mandalas into a yearbook, please make the format 7" X 6" sturdy paper. Make the mandala on the rightmost 6" X 6" area, leaving the leftmost inch as the area to bind it into a book. Please use sturdy, at least 65# paper (at least cardstock weight).

Those of you who can, please post your mandalas in the Flickr group. I'll check profiles and reserve the right to ban at my discretion. I will angel but I hope it will not be necessary.

I've never drawn a mandala before, only colored them. But I have done zentangling and enjoy doodling, so it seems like this would be a fun idea. Would it be OK for me to join if this will be my first mandala I draw? I would of course put a lot of effort into it, and make it as pretty as I can. But I don't know how 'perfect' it will turn out, and I don't know if people would rather have something very professional looking, or if amateur art is OK. Please let me know, thanks.

I'd be honored to receive a first mandala effort.

All we can ask is that you put effort into it. You are welcome to join the swap!
