Description:

This swap is not for mail sissies! You'll get strange looks at the post office! Some people will not understand! You must have a sense of humor for this swap, so serious people with frowns on their faces may as well quit reading. (You won't like me. You won't like this swap. Please go away, since I'm a bit low-self-esteemy over this idea, and you'll give a bad look that I will feel, even if I don't see it.)

Ahem...my idea: let's mail one of those cheap paper plates like a postcard! Let's make our mail carriers figure out how they're going to squeeze a full paper plate into our tiny mail boxes because the whole world is going to homeowners associations and communal mailboxes. Do I exaggerate? Good! How else am I going to think up things like mailing paper plates?!

DO NOT THINK OF JOINING THIS SWAP IF YOU ARE GOING TO PUT THE PLATE INTO AN ENVELOPE. NO ENVELOPES! DO YOU HEAR? IF YOU MAIL IT IN AN ENVELOPE YOUR PARTNER WILL GIVE YOU A BAD GRADE, AND CALL YOUR MOTHER.

Mail art is fun! Letters and notes are fun! Stickers are fun! Getting out those markers to doodle is fun! Lame boring two line messages are not fun! Have fun! Your partner wants something good. She told me.

This is going to cost $1.95 if the guy at my post office doesn't lie, so let's not believe him yet, but that's a good guideline. It has to be mailed like a package. (Which is cheaper than the can of corn I tried to mail like a package one time. Trust me, if you're on a budget, don't try mailing a can of corn. Even though it's funny, that kind of funny isn't worth $9, trust me. No one's laughing $9 worth.)

This is for U.S. people only, because we don't want people in other countries thinking we're stupid. Also, if you have a bad rating, I don't think I want you in my swap. But I could be wrong. Your dad could, like, own a paper plate factory, in which case, chances are you'll send it.

You're amazing. HAHA. I love this.

lettergirl 02/16/2012 #

Now that you said that you have to join.

denimblu14 02/16/2012 #

Marvellous swap idea! :)

HannahsMommy07 02/16/2012 #

LOVE IT! I mailed a Frisbee the other day and a thing (shoe not under wear). I have not figured out yet if the people at the PO fight over getting me so they can see what I ma mailing or fight over dealing with my mail!

kindledwhimsy 02/16/2012 #

Oh boy... I am in Canada, but looking enviously across the border and soooo wishing I could join! AWESOME idea! Yes. This rocks!!! I wish you all well!!! :o)

Shannoncollar 02/16/2012 #

I'm watching, and will join when it gets closer. Sounds like fun... you had me at doodling.

tiltawhirl 02/16/2012 #

can we put the paper plate in a ziploc baggie to mail. Do we draw on it and make a picture on it or is it just mailing a plain paperplate?

blazespirit 02/17/2012 #

Best swap idea and I LOVE your description of the swap! This shall be interesting. :-D

lettergirl 02/17/2012 #

No ziploc baggie...and I want you to decorate or write on the plate so that it's something you (and your partner will) like looking at. Don't worry about mailing it--post office people have seen weirder things go through. :)

Artistic 02/17/2012 #

love naked mail and this is a hoot!

I really like this one, can't wait to go home and start on something and looking forward to seeing what happens

LahDeeDah 02/17/2012 #

Hilarious! Can't wait to "meet" my partner and get started on this one!

VickiM 02/19/2012 #

This is great and reading your swap info was entertaining !

Mariposadreams 02/19/2012 #

Its a shame this is US only. I think its would be really fun and I could only imagine the thought process running through my mail person's mind........

lettergirl 02/19/2012 #

If anybody feels like doing a swap for other places, please feel free--I am thinking the postage might be too high for me if it is international. But I'd love to think of people sending paper plates in other countries!

LavenderSprinkles 02/24/2012 #

So the idea is to decorate a plate and mail it?

lettergirl 02/25/2012 #

Yep. You do whatever you'd like to the paper plate. Like mail art, or a postcard.

halfbrother 02/27/2012 #

Okay, so I have a clarifying question on the plate. How "cheap paper plate" should we go? I keep picturing the plates my mom bought when I was a kid... the kind where you had to stack three together in order for it to function as an actual plate. Maybe it's up to the sender's interpretation? Just want to make sure I don't disappoint - I'm a newbie : )

I'm absolutely love this idea - simply reading this made me laugh out loud!

ivoryblossom 02/27/2012 #

I laughed so hard at your description..!! Marvellous....

Unfortunately, I can't join in the fun - but to be honest, paying $20 for a paper plate (the price of a package from here to abroad) isn't a lot of fun either ;)

Best wishes from Holland!

lettergirl 02/27/2012 #

I'm glad you guys liked the idea, and I figured it would be expensive to and from other countries, so that's why it's US...Yeah, I was thinking of a cheap paper plate, but you do exactly what you want in that area. I don't care what kind of plate it is, so long as it isn't in an envelope.

dreamweaver 02/28/2012 #

I get looks mailing Miricle Whip jars and plastic water bottles with whimsical items inside, but this...makes me want to bring a video team along to the post office for a YouTube video! I'm loving this swap already!

ArtyBeth3 02/28/2012 #

Great mail art swap idea! I, too, loved & almost laughed out loud at your description. My post office always loves to see what I'm mailing, but so far I mostly do handmade colorful envies. I can't wait to see their face when I bring in my decorated paper plate!

djmom11 02/28/2012 #

I'm glad you said any paper plate. Mine is leftover happy birthday paper plate from my grandson's party. This will be my first naked mail swap. Hope the post office doesn't give me a hard time.

swap4fun 02/29/2012 #

This sounds like a great swap. Would like to join but I'm not much of a person to stand in lines to mail my packages. I hope you all have! I'll be watching to see how it all turns out.

lettergirl 02/29/2012 #

If that post office gives you a hard time, laugh at them and offer to mail them one too. Accuse them of being jealous, and buy a huge tiring assortment of different denomination of stamps, looking closely at whether you need one $.15 or a $.05 and a $.10..no, wait."How much does it cost to mail a stuffed poodle to New Guinea if I shove it in a square, see through envelope." Then, tell them you're feeling nauseous lately, so can they hurry, because the Dr. says he's not sure that rash on the palm of your hand should be exposed to air. Finally, tell them that you'll pray for their miserable attitude to change, God bless.

djmom11 02/29/2012 #

LOL @lettergirl

dreamweaver 02/29/2012 #

I asked my local postal clerk and she also said $1.95 so it has to be around that price I imagine from anywhere in the US I can't wait to get my partner so I can start my creativity mode!

tiltawhirl 02/29/2012 #

Okay, so like is this going to be in the national news because when we all go to the post it,ll be like -what the heck is up with all these paper plates, LOL, taking deep breath before walking into the post office

peartree55 02/29/2012 #

I Love this. I work at the post office (at the counter). I am always telling people to mail weird stuff like this. I am so in.

djmom11 03/ 2/2012 #

I'm cheating and putting this in my outgoing mail at work! We'll see what my coworker says. lol

Wingy 03/ 2/2012 #

Wingy 03/ 2/2012 #

mailed it out with no problems $1.95

dreamweaver 03/ 6/2012 #

I mailed my plate today and the postmaster looked at me like I had 2 horns coming out of my head...it was awesome!!! I was hoping there would be other people in line so I could see their reaction as well but alas, it was only me. This was a great swap!

Artistic 03/ 9/2012 #

Had tons of fun getting my plate decorated. It's on the way to my partner.

tiltawhirl 03/13/2012 #

Ha, the mail clerk at the post office, couldn't believe it when I showed her the plate and said, I need to mail this,LOL

Wingy 03/15/2012 #
