Description:

New year, new opportunities for creativity! For this 2 part swap, we will be spreading the creativity by creating mood boards for our partners.

From Wiki: "Mood boards are often used by graphic designers to enable a person to illustrate visually the direction of style which they are pursuing." There's a lot of info to be found on mood boards (also: inspiration boards) on the web if you need more ideas.

Part 1

Create a focused, mixed media collage designed after a particular theme/mood, which will be sender's choice. Your collage needs to be at least 8ร‚ยฝ"x11" and mounted on sturdy board - chip board, corrugated cardboard, etc.

While the theme is sender's choice, there are a few specific elements that you will be required to incorporate into your collage:

  • A color scheme (at least 2 colors). You can depict this through the images used to make up the whole of your collage, or by adding paint chips, actual paint, markers, colored pencils, paper punch outs, fabric, etc. in your chosen colors - or both!
  • Words. One word or many. The words can be lyrics, a poem, quotes, excerpt from a book...they should help convey the overall feel you're going for with your board.
  • A specific style sense. This can come in the form of fashion, artwork, architecture, design; again, you're aiming to convey your overall theme/mood, so your style images would complement that.

Beyond these 3 specific things, the rest of what goes into your collage composition is up to you. Make it nice; don't get "slap happy" - take some time to consider a visually interesting layout and design.

Part 2

Put the mood board to good use! As a 'thank you' you will send a handmade postcard to your partner inspired by their mood board. Be sure that you are able to send this out in a timely manner.

Clear as mud? Feel free to ask questions if you have any!
