Description:

One thing I really miss with my gluten-free diet is making trays and trays of cookies to share with friends at Christmas. Yes, there are options out there, but it is exhausting looking for them all by myself.

So, here is a swap - via email (no postage fees, yay!) to exchange favorite recipes that don't contain gluten. They can be recipes that have alternative flours, no flour at all, or ? Since there is a quick turnaround time, you can type up your recipe now then paste it into the email :)

If you have a favorite recipe where you just substitute G-F flour for wheat flour, you can send that if:

  • You have made it before and it tastes so good you would share it with friends.
  • You share what the G-F flour is that you are substituting. If you are using a store bought all purpose flour, please include the ingredients (or a web link) so that if we can't get it in the stores where we live, we can try to recreate it. Different flours taste and act radically different. Also, some people who have an allergy to gluten may also have an allergy to corn, soy, etc.

Please note if you lead a gluten-free lifestyle, you are responsible for checking that the recipe fits into the parameters that are set for you. The only rule is that the recipe needs to be gluten-free (not free from other allergens).

Here is all you need to do:

  • Type up your favorite gluten-free cookie recipe - preferably the kind of cookies that will work for cookie trays (i.e. not Chex mix, huge Monster cookies, or ice cream sandwiches...)
  • Email it to your 5 partners.
  • Rate your partners based on if they emailed you a G-F recipe - not if you like the recipe.
  • If you are uncertain about whether your recipe is G-F, don't send it.
  • Bake yourself a variety of G-F cookies to enjoy this holiday season!

I usually just take any recipe and substitute gluten-free flour for wheat flour, so I guess I shouldn't sign up.

@pahasiga - Thank you for mentioning that, I hadn't considered that option. I think that if you have a favorite cookie recipe that works well w/ substituting G-F flour it counts. I will change the swap description to include that. The only thing that I ask is that you have made the recipe and it tastes yummy - so good that you would share it with friends. I hope you join, it will be fun to have a recipe from Latvia!

Rather than just substituting gf flour, I get better results by substituting a gf baking blend, usually Pamela's Baking Mix. So many of the gf flours by themselves don't work well on their own - too grainy, too pasty, too strong-flavored.

Watching this for now.

True enough @TC - I actually make my own blend of rice/oat/corn flours with potato starch. It works great for pancakes, but not too good for sugar cookies. That's why I say it has to be a recipe you've tried if you are substituting :)

I have the best GFree baking mix recipe it works for everything! And the flours are mostly rice. But I would love some new ideas!

I changed the number of partners to 5 (just in case "10 partners" was scaring people away). We can always increase if we get more interest.

I signed up, but have not received the list for emailing.
